title: Text Piping
product: Form Library
description: Text piping is a technique of automatically inserting a respondent's answer from a previous question into a subsequent one. For example, if a respondent is asked to provide the name of their employee in one question, this name can be 'piped' into a subsequent question inquiring for more details about that employee. Piped text enables survey creators to personalize the survey experience for respondents. View a free demo for JavaScript to learn more.

# Text Piping (Vue 3)

Text piping enables you to dynamically insert text into questions and answers based on previous responses. Piped text can be used to personalize a survey (for example, you can address a respondent by their name) or simply to avoid re-entering already known information. In follow-up questions, piped text can be used to ask a respondent to indicate reasons behind their answer or elaborate on a brief response with further comments or details. In this demo, you are asked to enter contact information that is later used in a follow-up question about your preferred method of communication.

To use a previous response in a question title or choice item, simply insert the source question's [`name`](https://surveyjs.io/form-library/documentation/api-reference/question#name) in curly brackets into the [`title`](https://surveyjs.io/form-library/documentation/api-reference/question#title) property or a [choice item](https://surveyjs.io/form-library/documentation/api-reference/checkbox-question-model#choices)'s `text` property. View the configuration of the `"contactby"` question for a code example. If you want to learn more about dynamic texts in a survey, refer to the following help topic: [Dynamic Texts](/form-library/documentation/design-survey/conditional-logic#dynamic-texts).
