SurveyJS 2026 Roadmap: What We're Building Next

Over the past year, we've been laying the groundwork for the next major SurveyJS update.

Throughout 2025, our focus was on strengthening the core areas of the platform—modernizing data visualization, improving PDF-based workflows, and making Survey Creator significantly more configurable and adaptable. All of this work leads directly into what comes next. These improvements will all roll into SurveyJS v3.0.

In 2026, we'll emphasize three core areas: enhanced branding and appearance, deeper integration into existing meta-frameworks, and advanced questions and performant data handling. These updates will help developers build more responsive, scalable applications while improving the end-user experience.

In this post, we'd like to share our SurveyJS 2026 Roadmap—what we're planning, why these features matter, and what progress we've made so far. This plan is shaped by in-depth team discussions, user feedback, and a focus on making SurveyJS the go-to library for dynamic, customizable forms and surveys.

Timelines reflect our current plans and may evolve based on feedback and development progress. This roadmap and the features/products listed within it are subject to change. You should not rely on or use the information from this blog post or the roadmap page to help make a purchase decision about SurveyJS libraries.

SurveyJS v3.0: Our Top Priority for Early 2026

SurveyJS v3.0 is planned as a major release, with delivery expected in Q1 2026.

This release brings together several initiatives we've been developing and refining over the past year:

  • Data visualization
  • PDF-based workflows

Alongside these, SurveyJS v3.0 will introduce a significant step forward in how Survey Creator can be configured to adapt to its users' preferences.

Data Visualization: A More Powerful Dashboard

In 2025, we substantially modernized the Dashboard library—both visually and architecturally.

Fresh Styling for SurveyJS Dashboard

What's coming in v3.0:

  • Refreshed, modern styling for charts and tables
  • New data analysis features
    • Date range presets
    • Cross-filtering between widgets
    • Question selection
    • Answer count visualization
  • Pivot chart support for deeper, multidimensional analysis

These enhancements turn dashboards into interactive analysis tools rather than static reports—especially useful when working with large or complex datasets.

PDF Generator: Consistency Between Web and Document

PDF workflows remain critical for many teams, particularly in regulated or document-heavy environments.

SurveyJS v3.0 continues our investment in PDF generation with a focus on:

  • Improved rendering of complex layouts
  • More consistent appearance between web forms and PDFs
  • Expanded customization options

Our goal is to ensure that forms designed for the web translate cleanly and predictably into PDFs without layout issues or visual compromises.

UI Preset Editor: No-Code Control Over Survey Creator

One of the most important additions planned for SurveyJS v3.0 is the UI Preset Editor. This is a no-code configuration tool that allows you to customize how Survey Creator looks and behaves without writing additional code.

With the UI Preset Editor, you'll be able to configure:

  • Languages available to end users
  • Toolbox
  • Property Grid
  • Toolbar
  • Other Survey Creator settings

Once configured, the preset can be exported as a JSON object and applied to Survey Creator with just a few lines of code.

This makes it much easier to adapt Survey Creator to different user roles, products, and workflows—especially in white-label scenarios.

Appearance & Customization Beyond v3.0

Tailwind and Bootstrap Style Adapters

In 2026, we're planning official style adapters to simplify visual integration with popular UI frameworks:

  • Tailwind CSS
  • Bootstrap

These adapters will help SurveyJS components blend seamlessly into existing design systems without extensive overrides or custom CSS.

AI-Generated Custom Themes

We're also exploring AI-assisted theming to reduce manual styling work.

Planned capabilities include:

  • Generating SurveyJS themes from Figma design kits
  • Deriving styles directly from an existing website

This will make it much faster to achieve brand consistency across surveys and forms.

Full Compatibility with Next.js and Nuxt

Many people today build applications using modern meta frameworks instead of plain React/Vue + custom setup. To make SurveyJS integrate as smoothly as possible into these modern stacks, we're planning optimized support, better setup guides, performance tweaks, and seamless integration.

In 2026, we're focusing on improved compatibility with:

  • Next.js
  • Nuxt

This includes smoother SSR behavior, better hydration handling, and an improved overall developer experience.

New Question Types

We're expanding SurveyJS with new, more advanced question types, including:

  • Image Map (already in progress)
  • Fill in the Blanks
  • A Matrix overhaul powered by CSS Grid for better responsiveness and layout flexibility

These updates make complex surveys easier to design and easier for respondents to complete.

Grid Layout for Surveys

We plan to resume development of the grid layout feature, which was paused in early 2025 to prioritize work on SurveyJS v3.0.

Survey Grid Layout

Planned capabilities include:

  • Configurable column-based survey layouts
  • Better question alignment across pages and panels
  • Fully responsive behavior across screen sizes

Data Grid for Data-Heavy Scenarios

Dynamic Matrix will be used as a basis for a more powerful grid view designed for data-heavy use cases.

Planned capabilities include:

  • Lazy loading and server-side processing
  • Column sorting, filtering, and reordering
  • Infinite scrolling or paging

This is ideal for admin interfaces, internal tools, and complex data entry workflows.

Rich Text Editing in Survey Creator

In the second half of 2026, we plan to introduce rich text editing support for:

  • Question titles
  • Descriptions
  • HTML questions

This gives survey designers more control over formatting.
